UVa Alumni Association Hosts Annual Taste of Charlottesville

On Thursday, UVa Alumni Association held the 19th Annual Taste of Charlottesville at Alumni Hall.

The event featured a variety of foods like sandwiches, sushi, ice cream, and fondue for students to sample.

“We want to expose students to restaurants in the area, particularly the corner,” said Patti Daves, Senior Director of Membership and Business Development for the Alumni Association.

Each year, the number of food vendors at TOC ranges from nine to thirteen. This year’s participants included: UVa Dining Services, The Melting Pot, Sticks Kebob Shop, Shenandoah Joe’s, Take it Away, Moe’s Original Bar b que, Wegmans, the Virginian, the Biltmore, Ben and Jerry’s and Challah for Hunger at UVa.

Daves said that the Biltmore and the Virginian are two of the most faithful restaurants as they have participated in Taste of Charlottesville almost every year.

The nonprofit organization Challah for Hunger also joined in at TOC. The group served their signature bread to raise awareness and funds for hunger relief.

“This is my first year here and I think it is a good turnout and our station has been popular,” said third-year Seven Starosta, a volunteer for Challah for Hunger.

UVa Dining offered a range of samples, including vegetable dumplings from In the Nood.

Once students finished trying all of the different foods, they voted on their favorite.

“I liked how they had mac n’ cheese from the Virginian because that is what I always get when I go there,” said third-year Maia Rosewelsh.

Benefits of being a student member of the Alumni Association include free admission to events like TOC along with discounts from the UVa bookstore, Campus Cookies, FIG Bistro, The Pigeon Hole, Basil Mediterranean Bistro and Wine Bar, Revolutionary Soup and more.
