Huff Shines in UVA Victory Against Columbia

The UVA Men’s basketball team remained unbeaten after defeating the Columbia Lions by a final score of 60-42.

The Cavaliers started off hot, gaining a 10-0 lead over the first five minutes. Once again, the Wahoo defense held strong throughout the game, limiting the Lions to only 29% from the field, 26% from behind the arc, and forcing 13 turnovers. While there were flashes of brilliance, such as Jay Huff’s reverse alley-oop from Kihei Clark early on, the Cavalier offense was relatively underwhelming, shooting only 41% from the field.

Big men Jay Huff (13 PTS, 6 REB, 5 BLK) and Mamadi Diakite (13 PTS, 8 REB) both had impressive games on both ends of the court. Kihei Clark (10 PTS, 5 AST) and Braxton Key (9 PTS, team-high 9 REB) also contributed during their 30 and 21 minutes, respectively.

As the game began to enter garbage time, some of the bench players began to see more game-time. Walk-on Chase Coleman, and redshirt freshman Francisco Caffaro both earned their first career points for the orange and blue.

The Cavaliers will look to continue their strong early-season play when the Vermont Catamounts (3-0) come to John Paul Jones Arena to square off this Tuesday at 7:00pm.
