Virginia Set To Abolish Death Penalty

Wednesday afternoon, Governor Ralph Northam will sign legislation ending the death penalty in Virginia, a state with a prolific and extensive history of conducting executions. Gov. Northam is scheduled to sign the landmark bill at the Greensville Correction Center at 2PM.

Last month, the Virginia General Assembly voted to abolish the death penalty, with both the Senate and House of Delegates approving bills to end capital punishment. Reporter Brianna Sosa speaks to supporters and opponents of the bill, as well as one of the two men on death row.
