Richmond provided a tough challenge for much of the opening half until Virginia broke through in the 37th minute with a goal from Meghan McCool off a beautiful assist from Alexis Shaffer.  Minutes later, Shaffer recorded a goal off a phenomenal free kick, bringing the score to 2-0 at halftime.

In the second half, Hana Kerner scored in the 67th minute to give Virginia a 3-0 advantage.  Four minutes later, Betsy Brandon scored on a penalty kick for a 4-0 lead.  Lastly, Montana Sutton recorded the final goal of the contest in the 85th minute for a 5-0 victory.

Virginia played stout defense all game long, as Richmond only recorded one shot on target, which was saved by goalkeeper Morgan Stearns, who continued her impressive start to the season by recording yet another shutout.  Virginia recorded 37 total shots while Richmond only had four.  The Cavaliers held an 8-4 advantage in corner kicks.

Next up for Virginia is a challenging matchup at No. 20 ranked Georgetown (5-1) on Sunday night.  The Cavaliers will begin ACC play next Friday night with a home contest against Virginia Tech.
