Second Year student Paul Kim passed away on Tuesday, January 12th from complications following surgery.

Kim spent his first year of college at Christopher Newport University before transferring to UVa this year. He was a pre-comm student who was highly interested in economics, finance, and international business. He also studied Korean, aspiring to communicate fluently in his family’s native language. Kim had planned to visit family in Korea to become more familiar with his heritage.

A Weedon House resident, Kim was active in the Johnson Malone Weedon Community Council. He was also involved in Chi Alpha, the Christian fraternal organization. Friends of the Reston, Virginia native noted his love of music, especially hip-hop, and how he prioritized being a good person.

Dean of Students Allen Groves informed the university community of Paul’s passing in an email, saying, “our thoughts and prayers are with Paul’s parents, Tae and Kyung Kim; other family members; and his friends and classmates at UVA.” The email also urged students in need of support to seek out Counseling and Psychological Services at 434-243-5150.
