As they say, in order to be the best, you need to beat the best.

Bronco Mendenhall over the past week has scheduled the UVA Football Team to play in the 2020 Chick-Fil-A Kickoff game in Atlanta Georgia in the new Mercedes-Benz Stadium against the Georgia Bulldogs.

The game will be played on a Monday night during prime time.  The game will payout each team approximately 2 million dollars and it will be a way to showcase both programs under national spotlight.

Georgia has been a consistent top-25 team in the past and this game will certainly be a challenge for the Hoos.  The game is usually shown on ESPN and it will be a great selling point for Bronco Mendenhall to use in his recruiting efforts as it is an opportunity to play on a national stage.

Coming off a 2-10 record to begin Mendenhall’s tenure at UVA, Mendenhall said that “Having the chance to open the college football season in the Chick-Fil-A Kickoff Game is a fantastic opportunity for our program” and added that, “players love to compete on the largest stage and Atlanta is a great location for our fans to spend the Labor Day weekend. I cannot imagine a better setting to open the season than to face Georgia in what I’m told will be one the nation’s finest stadiums. The Chick-Fil-A Kickoff Game has a reputation for being an amazing experience for both teams and we are appreciative of this invitation.”

In addition, UVA will be playing a home-and-home series with the Maryland Terrapins during the 2023 and 2024 seasons. They will play in College Park in 2023 and in Charlottesville in 2024.  Maryland one of UVA’s oldest rivals and holds a 44-34-2 advantage all time versus the Hoos.
