UVA Defense Dominates in Victory Over Cuse

Many questioned Virginia’s ability to score the basketball coming into the season. As the defending champs tipped off the 2019-2020 season at Syracuse, those questions were not answered. UVA’s defense, however, looked as strong as ever as the Cavaliers shut down the Orange at the Carrier Dome in 48-34 victory to open the season. Syracuse made just 13 of their 55 field goal attempts and UVA’s big men were dominant on the boards, out-rebounding the Orange 47 to 28. On a slow offensive night, Mamadi Diakite led the Hoos with twelve points. Jay Huff and Kihei Clark both notched double-doubles as Virginia began the season with a tough conference road victory. UVA will play JMU in their home opener this Sunday at 6pm.
