TURBO: UVA Sports Friday Night Highlights (and Lowlights)

On today’s TURBO, reporter Matthew Newton covers Friday night’s UVA sports highlights. The men’s soccer team brought their shutdown defense to Pittsburgh, and left with a win and an undefeated record. Volleyball had a tougher time, losing a very competitive game to ACC-leading Florida State at home.

Happy Gameday Hoos! Let’s check out Friday’s sports action.

The men’s soccer team went on the road again in another ACC matchup against Pitt. The defense continued their dominance, notching their 6th shutout of the year in a 2-0 win over the Panthers. Both of Virginia’s goals came in the second half, one from Cabrel Happi Kamseau and one from Aboubacar Keita. With the win, the Hoos remain undefeated in both ACC play and overall. Up next, Virginia returns to Klockner for 3 straight home games.

The volleyball team hosted conference-leading Florida State at Mem Gym on Friday night, and battled the Seminoles competitively in each set, with no set being decided by more than 6 points. Unfortunately, the Hoos lost each of those close sets in a 3-0 defeat. It’s clear the Hoos were motivated by the capacity crowd of over a thousand fans in attendance. Let’s try to get them going again on Sunday, when they play host to Miami.

That’s all for today Hoos, have a great weekend!
