On Saturday, the City of Charlottesville reopened the street where a woman was killed after a white nationalist drove his car into a crowd of protestors opposing the Unite the Right Rally.

The section of Fourth Street that crosses the Downtown Mall between East Water and East Main had been closed for exactly four weeks since the tragic death of 32 year-old Heather Heyer on August 12th.

The suspect, 20 year-old James Fields Jr., plowed his Dodge Challenger through a large group of anti-white nationalist protestors. Fields was charged with second degree-murder after killing Heyer and injuring 19 other citizens.

According to a Charlottesville news release, Heyes’ family “expressed support for the reopening of the street to traffic”. The city also mentioned that they would announce any sort of memorial honoring Heyes’ death once plans are finalized. There were flowers and chalk decorations near the site of the accident to honor Heyer.
