The Virginia Men’s Basketball team beat the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets 62-49 on Saturday, January 23rd.

Playing in front of a nearly sold out crowd of 14,459 in John Paul Jones Arena, Junior Marial Shayok was not shy in getting the Hoos’ offense going.

Shayok started his fourth game in a row and has emerged as the standout scorer that the Hoos have needed.

He had a career-high of 19 points against the Yellow Jackets, which was the third time out of four games that Shayok has set or tied his career high. He was 6-of-9 shooting and 2-for-5 from beyond the arc.

Shayok’s dominance will need to continue as the Hoos face two top-25 opponents on the road. The team heads to Indiana on Tuesday to face No. 14-ranked Notre Dame and then to Philadelphia, PA on Saturday to take on No. 1 Villanova.

Senior London Perrantes leads the Hoos in overall scoring averaging 11.7 points per game. On Saturday, he became the fourth UVa men’s basketball player to have 1,000 points and 500 assists in his collegiate career.

The Hoos will look to both Perrantes and Shayok to continue to carry their offense as they face a gauntlet of tough opponents in the next few games.

The Hoos moved up four spots this week in the national rankings to No. 12.
