Remainder of UVA Women’s Basketball Season Cancelled

The UVA women’s basketball team will not take the floor for the rest of the 2020-2021 season, as they announced Thursday afternoon that they are ending their season, in response to COVID-19. The Cavaliers join Duke’s women’s basketball team as the only Power 5 basketball teams to cancel their seasons.

The Hoos finished 0-5 after not playing a game since December 13th and pausing activities on December 19th. In addition to the six games that were canceled or postponed, the team also suffered a number of injuries.

Coach Tina Thompson admitted it was a tough decision, but wanted to focus on the health and safety of her players and felt this was the best move. UVA fans will miss seeing the women’s team compete, but hopefully the Cavaliers will be able to return to the court next season.
