The UVa Arts department notified students who had collected a free ticket of the cancellation in an email Wednesday morning. The email cited a “scheduling conflict,” but provided no further information. More details regarding the Speaker Series will be announced at a later date.

Franco was booked to be the third ever speaker at the annual event, scheduled to occur in John Paul Jones Arena. Since its inauguration in Fall 2013, the event has featured alumna Tina Fey and actor Kevin Spacey. Vice Provost for the Arts Jody Kielbasa had planned to conduct a moderated conversation with the popular actor to discuss his diverse career and what the arts meant to him.

An update about the future of the event is expected to be issued in the coming days as the Arts department works to maintain the annual tradition.
