Rising second-years Grant Sirlin and Jared Vishno have turned a passion project into an NCAA-certified business that provides Division I athletes with a platform to market themselves.
According to Sirlin and Vishno, student-athletes do not receive enough financial support to live comfortably. Through Division 1-on-1, their one-on-one training program, student-athletes have an opportunity to make a little extra money doing what they love.
Young athletes also benefit financially from the program, as the rates of Division 1-on-1 trainers are much lower than those of professional trainers, but the training is comparable.
Currently, 10 of the 45 registered athletes are offering training in Charlottesville. They can be hired at division1on1.com.
Sirlin and Vishno won $11,000 competing in the 2016 and 2017 UVa Entrepreneurship Cup against mostly graduate students. They were also among the few competitors selected to speak at Tom Tom’s “Crowdfunded Pitch Night” event.
