Craig Littlepage, Athletic Director of UVa, Retires

Today Virginia director of athletics Craig Littlepage announced he is retiring from the position after 16 years and plans to transition into a role in the University President’s Office.

He had to say the following,

“It’s hard to believe how fast the last 16 years as the director of athletics at UVA have gone… Overall, to have worked and lived in Charlottesville and the University community for 35 of the last 41 years is truly a blessing. After much thought and consideration, I realized this was the right time for me to step aside.”

Craig Littlepage’s resignation comes less than a week after Jon Oliver, Executive Associate Athletic Director, announced he was leaving UVa.

Littlepage was appointed director in 2001 and under his tenure UVa found an era of success. From 2002 through the spring of 2012, UVA won seven NCAA team championships, 53 ACC championships, and graduated 93% of student-athletes who competed their eligibility. From February 2013 to the present Virginia has won 23 ACC championships and six NCAA team championships.

UVa will now need to find both a new athletic director to replace Littlepage as well as an Executive Associate Athletic Director to replace Jon Oliver. Littlepage will remain athletic director until UVa finds a replacement.
