Corner Juice’s Secret Ingredient Is Its People

Corner Juice opened on August 14 of this year. It offers smoothies, juices, acai bowls, overnight oats, chia pudding, sandwiches, power balls, and toasts. The ingredients are fresh and the service is friendly.

“Corner Juice developed from necessity,” said Joseph Linzon, the owner of the juice bar. “When I was a student here, the Corner was devoid of healthy options. It became my mission to change that.”

Corner Juice is not Linzon’s first business. In 2015, he opened Roots, the popular salad place also on the Corner. The new spot helps further Linzon’s goal of making healthy food and drinks accessible for students at UVa.

“Accessibility means a lot of different things. To be accessible, you have to be sustainable, delicious, affordable,” said Linzon. While charging $10 for a juice or smoothie is commonplace around the country, everything on Corner Juice’s menu is under $10.

“We’re debunking the myth that healthy restaurants are expensive.”

Third-year Madeline McNamara has become a frequent customer of the new smoothie and juice bar. “The first time I went to Corner Juice, I was greeted as if I was an old friend,” she said. “The staff is incredibly welcoming and truly cares about the customers. On top of the great customer service that keeps me coming back, the smoothies are unique and delicious!”

For many students and residents alike, Corner Juice is not just a place to grab a juice and go; it has space to sit and relax, catch up with friends, or study.

Next Thursday, Corner Yoga opens. Its studio is in the basement of the restaurant and will offer classes as well as host private events.

“Both the juice and yoga parts are integral to each other. They have a kind of symbiotic relationship,” said Linzon.

While Corner Juice is just beginning to settle into the Corner and develop its customer base, it already has some devoted patrons. For McNamara, stopping by has become part of her daily routine.

“I’m just a big fan of the people!”

Corner Juice is located at 1509 University Ave, Charlottesville, Va. It is open from 7:30 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Monday through Friday, and from 8:30 a.m to 7:00 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
