Future & Lil Yachty Concert Cancelled

According to multiple sources in the University Programs Council (UPC), the Future and Lil Yachty concert set to be held at John Paul Jones Area this Saturday has been cancelled.

UPC is in charge of organizing such events for UVa students. The sources confirmed the concert’s cancellation and asked to remain anonymous.

The concert was viewed by many in the university community as an alternative to Block Party on Wertland Street and surrounding areas.

This is a breaking news story. Stay tuned for details.

UPDATE: It has been confirmed by UPC staff that the event was cancelled by the artist rather than the organization. UPC is now launching a social media campaign to recruit Chance the Rapper to perform for UVa’s Welcome Week. Students are using the #giveUVAaCHANCE hashtag.

UPDATE: UPC sent out an email to students on Friday stating the following:

“Yesterday evening, the University was notified that Future and Lil Yachty cancelled their appearance at the Welcome Week concert scheduled for Saturday. The artists have not rescheduled their appearance at this time. While we are very disappointed that Future and Lil Yachty will not be able to perform, UPC is currently taking steps towards programming another event(s) for new and returning students to celebrate coming together for a new year. A number of previously scheduled social events and activities will still take place around Grounds on Saturday night, planned by several other organizations, including Resident Staff and IM-Rec.”
