After First-Half Scare, Virginia Uses 2nd Half Run to Defeat Gardner-Webb in NCAA First RD, 71-56


The hearts of Virginia fans everywhere were racing as the Cavaliers fell behind by as much as 14 points in the first half against Gardner-Webb in the first round of the NCAA Tournament, but the Wahoos used a huge second-half run to win 71-56. De’Andre Hunter led with 23 points, as UVA avoided a repeat of last year’s first-round defeat. Virginia will play against Oklahoma on Sunday in the second round.
