In September of this year, a young woman was killed by police for refusing to wear a headdress in Tehran, Iran. Police brutality is not uncommon in Iran under the rule of their Supreme Leader. However, this young woman’s death became a powder keg for multi-generational protests in Iran with women and men standing side by side for equality. Though we are in America, it is still important to be aware and show our support for Iran’s movement toward freedom. That is why Abtin Afshar of the Iranian Student Association at UVA is joining us today to share his story and the story of Iran’s current situation.
