#3 Virginia Outlasts #11 Loyola, 15-12 in Baltimore

Matt Moore scored five goals and the #3 Virginia Cavaliers defeated the #11 Loyola Greyhounds on the road Saturday evening in Baltimore. 

Virginia got off to a slow start as Loyola led 4-1 after the first quarter, with Kevin Lindley scoring two goals in the first frame for the Greyhounds. 

The Cavaliers responded with five consecutive goals, each by different scorers, to give UVA the lead. One of the goals came from Petey LaSalla directly off of a faceoff. LaSalla won 15 of his 23 faceoffs and picked up seven ground balls. 

Connor Shellenberger assisted on two of the goals during the run. Shellenberger finished with two goals and three assists. 

The Greyhounds kept the game close throughout and the Hoos led 7-6 at halftime. 

After Loyola scored to tie the game early in the third quarter, Matt Moore recorded his third goal of the day to give UVA the lead for good. Virginia outscored Loyola 5-3 in the third quarter and led 12-9 at the end of the third. 

Loyola drew within one goal with a little over seven minutes to play, but Matt Moore scored on a tough turnaround shot for his fifth goal of the game. Payton Cormier capped off a hat-trick and the victory with a goal with four minutes to play. 

With the win, Virginia snapped a two-game losing streak at Loyola and improved to 3-0 on the season. Up next, the Hoos will travel to play at #4 Syracuse on Saturday, February 27th, at 6:00pm.
