#14 Baseball (20-14) : 7-5 Loss at VCU, 15-3 Win vs. George Washington, 3-0 Win at Boston College, 3-2 Loss at Boston College, 5-4 Loss at Boston College
The 14th ranked baseball team fell to VCU on Tuesday in Richmond. The Rams dominated most of the game, taking a 7-1 lead after six innings. The ‘Hoos scored four straight to bring the game to within two but couldn’t complete the comeback. Sophomore Adam Haseley hit a two-run homer in the loss.

Virginia bounced back on Wednesday against George Washington, tallying 15 runs on 16 hits. Sophomore Justin Novak had a career day for the Cavaliers, going 3-4 with 5 RBI and his first career homerun. Senior David Rosenberger picked up his second win of the season after tossing three scoreless innings.

In the first of a three game series against Boston College, the ‘Hoos got a fantastic performance out of junior starter Connor Jones, who pitched a complete game shutout, allowing only one hit. BC suffered from sloppy play as well, committing three errors in the game that led to all three Virginia runs.
The Cavaliers dropped game two after the Eagles won in walk-off fashion in the ninth inning. Virginia starter Adam Haseley had a solid outing, pitching eight innings while allowing only two runs. But errors would come to sink the ‘Hoos, as Boston College was able to score the game winning run in the ninth inning after an errant throw to first base.
Virginia lost the rubber match of the series on Sunday 5-4 after Boston College hit a walk-off single in the 13th inning. Sophomore Pavin Smith hit a three-run homerun in the 10th inning, but BC once again tied the game in the bottom half. Finally, the Eagles’ Scott Braren knocked in the game-winning run in the 13th inning. UVa burned through seven pitchers in the game with the last one, freshman Chesdin Harrington, picking up the loss. Virginia will take on Longwood Tuesday before starting a three game series with North Carolina this weekend.
#20 Men’s Lacrosse (6-6) : 16-8 Loss at #11 North Carolina
The men’s lacrosse team fell to 11th ranked UNC on Sunday. The Tar Heels dominated from the start outscoring Virginia 10-2 over the first two quarters and outshooting the Cavaliers 56-33 in the game. Senior James Pannell led the ‘Hoos with three goals in the loss. The team will take on Duke this Sunday in another ACC showdown.
#13 Women’s Lacrosse (7-6) : 13-9 Win at Navy
The women’s lacrosse team earned their first road win on Wednesday against Navy. Virginia took a 3-2 lead early in the first half and never trailed for the rest of the game. Sophomore Kasey Behr and senior Kelly Boyd each tallied a hat trick in the win, while sophomore goalkeeper Rachel Vander Kolk recorded six saves. The Cavaliers will travel to Louisville to take on the Cardinals on Saturday.
#3 Men’s Tennis (20-3) : 5-2 Win at #14 Florida, 5-2 Win at Georgia Tech
The Virginia men’s tennis team took down 14th ranked Florida on Wednesday in Gainesville. The Gators took two of three doubles matches, putting the pressure on the Cavaliers early. But UVa responded on the singles court, as Thai-Son Kwiatkowski, J.C. Aragone, Luca Corinteli, Henrik Wiersholm, and Colin Altamirano all picked up wins. Wiersholm clinched the match for the Cavaliers after a second-set tiebreaker.
Virginia moved on to defeat Georgia Tech on Friday 5-2. The ‘Hoos took the doubles point early, as the teams of Shane/Corinteli and Kwiatkowski/Styslinger both won their matches. UVa then took four of six singles matches to clinch the win.
The ‘Hoos swept Clemson 7-0 on Sunday in the final game of a 10 day road trip for Virginia. Shane, Kwiatkowski, Altamirano, Aragone, Wiersholm, Richmond, Styslinger, and Cornish were all victorious for the Cavaliers.
#12 Women’s Tennis (12-9) : 6-1 Win at Virginia Tech
The women’s tennis team shut down rival Virginia Tech on Sunday 6-1. Danielle Collins, Julia Elbaba, Stephanie Nauta, Meghan Kelley, and Cassie Mercer all picked up wins for Virginia on the singles court. UVa will take on Pittsburgh this Friday before facing Notre Dame on Sunday at home.
Softball (13-27) : 5-3 Win vs. Syracuse, 10-8 Loss vs. Syracuse, 8-4 Loss vs. Syracuse
The Virginia softball team took on Syracuse in a doubleheader on Saturday to open a three game series. The Cavaliers took game one after bouncing back from a three run deficit to score five straight runs, headlined by freshman Allie Arneson’s solo homerun.
In game two, the Orange once again benefitted from early offense, tallying a three-run homer in the first inning. The ‘Hoos answered with a four-run inning of their own, but ultimately couldn’t stop the Syracuse offense, falling 10-8.
Syracuse took the deciding game of the series 8-4 on Sunday. The Orange used a six-run second inning to put the pressure on Virginia from the start. The Cavaliers responded with a four-run fifth inning after an RBI single and a three-run homerun from junior Iyana Hughes. But that was all the offense UVa could muster, as Virginia still came up short. The team will take on North Carolina in a three game series next weekend in Charlottesville.

Track & Field : UVa Quad – Men’s: 3-0, Women’s: 3-0; Lou Onesty/Milton G. Abramson Invitational
Virginia competed in the UVa Quad meet on Friday, as both the men’s and women’s teams swept the competition in double-dual scoring. The Cavalier women broke two school records, as sophomore Bridget Guy set the new mark in the pole vault, while junior Christine Bohan set the record in shot put. The ‘Hoos also finished first in the 4X100 relay with the team of Heather Smith, Andrea Wright, Peyton Chaney, and Tori McKenzie.
The women’s track & field team also competed on Saturday, winning five events in the Lou Onesty/Milton G. Abramson Invitational. Senior Peyton Chaney (100m), Jessica Caldwell (triple jump), Heather Smith (100m hurdles), Andrea Wright (200m), and Katie Freix (pole vault) all finished first in their respective events. UVa will host the Virginia Challenge April 22-23 in Charlottesville.
#3 Women’s Rowing: 5 Race Wins vs. Duke
The women’s rowing team took all five races against Duke on Saturday on the Rivanna Reservoir. The UVa Varsity Four, Varsity Eight, and Second Varsity Eight teams all picked up race wins.
