The Virginia Cavaliers were defeated handily by the defending national champion Clemson Tigers in the ACC Championship Game 62-17. The Cavaliers hung with the Tigers early, putting together consecutive long drives to start the game and tied the game at seven. However, Clemson’s talent on both sides of the ball gradually overwhelmed the Hoos and gave the Tigers the blowout victory. Virginia managed 387 yards of total offense, the most of any of Clemson’s opponents this season. Unfortunately, UVA had poor starting field position for most of the game, likely a product of ACC first-team return man Joe Reed being out with an injury, so the long Cavalier drives rarely ended with points on the board. The Cavaliers will look to end their season on a positive note in what will likely be a New Year’s Six Bowl.
