On Saturday, the UVA Men’s basketball team defeated UMass in the semifinal round of the Air Force Reserve Tip-Off Tournament. The Cavaliers led for the entire game, as they defeated the Minutemen by a final score of 58-46, handing them their first loss of the season (5-1) while the Cavaliers remained unbeaten (5-0).
Braxton Key got the offense started, scoring the first six points for the Wahoos. He would finish with 16 points on 64% from the field, also grabbing 7 rebounds. Kihei Clark led the team with 14 points and six assists, continuing his strong start to the season. Jay Huff also added 10 points and 8 rebounds off the bench.
The Cavalier defense had another great showing, limiting the Minutemen to only 15 baskets, shooting 30% from the field and only 19% from behind the three-point line. Tony Bennett’s strong defense also outrebounded their opponents 40-26.
UVA will stay in Connecticut and look to continue their strong start in the championship game of the Air Force Reserve Tip-Off Tournament on Sunday at 1pm against Arizona State University.
