The Cavalier football team went down to Duke and followed up an incredible victory versus Miami with a blue devil beatdown, winning this one 28 to 14 at Wallace Wade stadium.
Once again, the defense played stout, limiting duke to just 82 yards and 0 points in the first half. Juan Thornhill continued an outstanding campaign with his 4th pick on the year and Bryce Hall grabbed one of his own. This game turned into a nail biter late after a 4th quarter duke touchdown, but that was all she wrote for the blue devils.
Offensively this clean performance represents a major upgrade compared to what we saw a week ago. Overall the Hoos tallied 376 total yards of offense, 198 through the air and 178 on the ground. Olamide Zaccheaus surpassed 200 career receptions and scored on a two point conversion. Bryce Perkins completed 20 out of 32 passes for 189 yards, including a beautiful touchdown pass to Evan Butts late in the fourth after escaping pressure and the conversion to Zaccheaus. He added a pair of touchdowns with his legs, and crucially threw no interceptions. The offense rebounded nicely in this turnover free affair.
A missed 36 yard field goal attempt could have been costly had the game gone differently, but the special teams unit consistently left the offense with unbelievable field position. Aside from the missed field goal blemish, we saw the team play at a high level on defense, offense, and special teams. Now 5 and 2 and coming off of two huge ACC wins, the Hoos are riding high with a ton of momentum as we push deeper into the season.
