The United States women’s national soccer team won its second consecutive World Cup on Sunday, defeating the Netherlands 2-0. The team featured the country’s best soccer players, including three Virginia Cavalier alumni. Defenders Becky Sauerbrunn and Emily Sonnett as well as midfielder Morgan Brian were part of the team that never trailed during their World Cup run. UVA women’s soccer head coach Steve Swanson was also a member of the US coaching staff. Congratulations to Morgan, Becky, and Emily on representing the University and America as World Cup champions.
