Monday morning, the Supreme court unanimously ruled, 9-0, in favor of former collegiate athletes over the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA).
The court ruled that the NCAA violated antitrust law in limiting education related benefits that can be given to student-athletes. As a result of this ruling, collegiate athletes can now earn unlimited compensation as long as it pertains to advancing their education.
In response to the official ruling, Justice Brett Kavanaugh published his opinion stating “the NCAA is not above the law.”
Though it does not guarantee money, this ruling acts as a major step towards compensating collegiate athletes and could lead to major change within the NCAA.
