Lost and unsure of how to spend your time in quarantine? We know how that feels, and we at WUVA: Eliza, Lauren, Sophie, and Megan, have gathered our brainpower to produce some tips of things we’ve found that help. We hope that you can find some of it useful, to make this difficult time go a little smoother.
- Be productive! Do your best to stick to a schedule. Having a clean workspace helps, and, if possible, try and make this somewhere else besides your bed. Make sure to change out of PJ’s–a different pair of sweats counts! Write out plans to structure the day, and take scheduled breaks. Have consistent meal times, and put your phone in a drawer/out of your room.
- Reach out to friends (virtually, of course)! Schedule Zoom calls, and use Netflix party to have a movie night. Binge Tiger King again together! Better the second, third, or fourth time. Send Tik Toks in your group chats, or make your own as a group. This is a fun challenge you can do with the help of all social-connecting tech available! Or send a care package to a friend, a package in the mail is a great lift-me-up on monotonous days.
- Practice self-care by making a homemade face mask or complete an at-home workout (the AFC hosts Zoom work-out classes). Make sure to eat fulfilling meals, and go outside for a walk, run, or bike ride, while following social distancing rules. Other ways to unwind include meditating (Headspace has a student membership for $10/year), or ordering take-out from your favorite restaurant, which is a great way to support local businesses. Try and separate your workspace and your relaxation space, it’s not the best idea to attend your Zoom class from your bed. And spend time with whoever you’re around! Take a selfie with your mom!
- Lastly, and most importantly: know that this isn’t going to last forever, and we’re all going to adapt the best we can. We’ll see you on the other side!
