Braxton Key scored 19 points and 8 rebounds and the Virginia Cavaliers won their third consecutive game in a 51-44 victory over the visiting Clemson Tigers Wednesday night at John Paul Jones Arena. The Hoos got off to a hot start and quickly led 14-2. UVA turned the ball over just two times in the first half and the Cavalier defense stifled the Tigers’ offense and gave the Hoos a 26-14 lead at the half. Paced by Aamir Simms’ 16 points, Clemson slowly climbed back into the game, twice cutting the UVA lead to just 2 points in the second half. UVA made key stops and got enough offense from Mamadi Diakite (13 points, 8 rebounds), Jay Huff (10 points, 10 rebounds), and Key, who hit two clutch threes late to help put the game away. The win was Virginia’s 10th straight over Clemson and a huge win in terms of momentum as the Hoos travel to Louisville Saturday afternoon to face the ACC-leading Cardinals.
