According to Virginia State Police, emergency crews are on the scene of a Virginia State Police helicopter crash near the Birdwood Golf Course in Albemarle County. The crash happened shortly before 5 p.m., and there are two confirmed fatalities.
There is still no information available regarding the cause of the crash, as police are still investigating.
Sources say the helicopter was patrolling the riots and protests happening in Charlottesville.
Robert Bragg, Virginia Professional Fire Fighters president, tweeted about the crash saying, “Helicopter crash fully involved believed to be VSP Helicopter working the protest but agency not confirmed.”
