‘Tis the season to be overwhelmed and extra-studious because finals are upon us. Luckily, UVa has some events going on this month to give you an excuse to step foot out of the library.
Get in the holiday spirit by attending President Sullivan’s Holiday Open House on December 1st from 4-6 pm at Carr’s Hill. Activities include bonding with fellow ‘hoos, munching on goodies, and making your very own gingerbread man. There will also be singing to spread cheer.
It is a stressful time of the year so take a break and go to the Student Stand-Up Competition on Tuesday, December 1st at 7pm in Newcomb Theater. Food will be provided and winners will receive gift cards.
Be sure to head out to the Lawn to join the Charlottesville and UVa community on December 3rd at 7pm for the 15th Annual Lighting of the Lawn. Not only will the Rotunda and Lawn be decorated in festive lights, but there will also be performances from various student groups.
“We have an extremely dedicated Lighting of the Lawn committee who has put in countless hours to make this event a success. We are also very grateful for the hard work from Facilities Management, the Drama Department, and Alumni Association,” says Lighting of the Lawn committee co-chair and fourth-year Ben Cunningham. “We are also pumped to have our community engagement arm working with Hope House this year to help light up houses in the Charlottesville community. I’m absolutely honored to be working for Lighting of the Lawn. It was the first event at UVa that made me feel a part of this university. I couldn’t be more excited for this Thursday!”
Grab your friends and support the First Year Player’s musical “Merrily We Roll Along!” Performances run from December 4-6th in the Student Activities Building. For show times and ticket prices, check out the link above.
If you are looking for a chill Friday night, stop by UPC’s “Happy Hoolidays.” They will be screening “How the Grinch Stole Christmas” at 11pm on December 4th in the Newcomb Theatre and are offering hot chocolate (from Starbucks) and cupcakes courtesy of Pearl’s Bake Shoppe. Bonus: If you are a third-year, you have the chance to win some sweet giveaways!
Looking for something active to do this weekend? The AFC will be hosting late night activities from 10pm-1am on December 4th and 5th with free pizza and the chance to win a Fitbit on both nights. Friday night’s After Hours event is bubble soccer and Saturday’s is laser tag.
UPC is hosting another late night event “Winterfest” on December 5th from 10pm- 2am at Ern Commons. There will be tacky sweater and gingerbread house competitions. Dean Groves will be making a special appearance to host his own story time. There will be cookies, hot chocolate, crafts, movies and more!
