About us

Today, commercial radio as an industry encompasses a wide variety digital media, so WUVA’s mission has expanded to train students in digital media as well. Our platform for that purpose is WUVA News, which publishes via WUVA Online. WUVAOnline’s mission is to serve the needs of the University of Virginia community in Charlottesville, nationally, and worldwide.

WUVA, Incorporated at the University of Virginia has fostered independent, student-owned, student-operated electronic media since 1947. Although this organization has members who are University of Virginia students and may have University employees associated or engaged in its activities and affairs, the organization is not a part of or an agency of the University. It is a separate and independent organization which is responsible for and manages its own activities and affairs. The University does not direct, supervise or control the organization and is not responsible for the organization’s contracts, acts or omissions.

WUVA News has been supported by grants from The Jefferson Trust, an activity of the UVA Alumni Association, and from the
UVA Parents Fund Committee.
