WUVA News just received exclusive word from Ken Beachley, owner of The Villa, that the legendary diner will be relocating to 1250 Emmet Street (the site of the Royal Indian restaurant next to the new Zaxby’s) and will be reopening in the summer of 2018. Operations at the Villa’s current location will end on Memorial Day, May 28, 2018.
Beachley’s announcement comes amidst high anticipation. This past November, UVa and Charlottesville community members were disappointed to learn that the restaurant was planning to close its doors in May. The Beachleys made it clear to diner-goers, however, that The Villa would not be closed for good.
The Villa is currently located on Route 29 just between Memorial Gym and the Lambeth Field Residences. This land is owned by UVa and will be affected during upcoming reconstruction efforts, thus prompting the diner’s move. Like The Villa, The Cavalier Inn will also be demolished during the reconstruction process.
After 12 years of serving the Charlottesville locality on Emmet Street, The Villa’s new location marks a change. Despite its new spot, the restaurant will likely continue to make its mark on the community.
Stay tuned for our feature video story on The Villa and its time with loyal UVa students and faculty at its current spot. Video will come out later this week.
