Former Cavalier, Malcolm Brogdon, continues to stand out and make Wahoo fans proud, even after his graduation from the University.
Everyone who is a Virginia basketball fan knows the name “Malcolm Brogdon.” Not only was he a leader on the court, but he was also a leader in the classroom. During his senior season (2015-2016), Brogdon was named ACC Player of the Year AND ACC Defensive Player of the Year, making him the first player in conference history to earn both honors during the same season. Last February, Brogdon’s Cavalier jersey number, #15 was retired to recognize and honor his contribution to Virginia Basketball. As far as academics go, Brogdon obtained his master’s in public policy from UVA’s prestigious Frank Batten School of Leadership and Public Policy. He was also one of the 40 students, out of hundreds who applied, that was chosen to live on the Lawn his senior year–an honor awarded only to the most accomplished UVA students.
Currently, Brogdon plays in the NBA for the Milwaukee Bucks. Brogdon was drafted by the Bucks in the 2016 NBA Draft as the 36th pick overall. Brogdon made his NBA debut in the Buck’s season opener in October of 2016 and has continued to make an impact on the program since. Because of his outstanding performance this past season with the Bucks, Brogdon was named 2016-2017 NBA Rookie of the Year last week. Brogdon is the first ever second-rounder in the NBA lottery era to win this award. Brogdon joined Kareem Abdul-Jabbar as the only players in Milwaukee Buck history to win the Rookie of the Year Award.
UVA fans and Buck fans alike look forward to see what the future has in store for Mr. Brogdon.
