Milo Yiannopoulos Lecture at Berkeley Cancelled

Milo Yiannopoulos of Breitbart News is currently on a nationwide tour of college campuses (which he calls ‘hotbeds’ for ‘bad ideas’ like progressive social justice, feminism, and the Black Lives Matter movement) to preach his anti-immigrant, pro-white gospel to young audiences. While he is often referred to as ‘the spokesperson for the alt-right,’ Yiannopoulos hides behind his homosexuality and Jewish heritage and denies any affiliation with neo-Nazis.

Yiannopoulos had coordinated with the Berkeley College Republicans a public lecture to be given on campus. One day before the event, Breitbart correspondent Jack Hadfield reported that Yiannopoulos’ mission is to “take down the growing phenomenon of ‘sanctuary campuses’ that shelter illegal immigrants from being deported.” Fearing that Yiannopoulos would target their undocumented peers, a group of more than 1,500 students organized what they called a ‘resistance dance party’ to create a peaceful distraction from Yiannopoulos’ lecture. Masked members of the anti-fascist extremist group, Antifa, interrupted the peaceful rally and began vandalizing campus property, prompting University police to cancel Yiannopoulos’ lecture.

Trump accused Berkeley students of denying Yiannopoulos the right to free speech in a tweet:

Trump’s loyalty with Yiannopoulos comes as no surprise. Earlier this week, he cut counter-terrorism efforts against white supremacist extremists and hate groups and signed an executive order giving white nationalist Steve Bannon a seat on the National Security Council.
