Every year, thousands of veterans sacrifice their lives for the freedom and safety of the American people.  This is something never forgotten by members of the University of Virginia ROTC.

To commemorate the Veteran’s Day, the University of Virginia ROTC is hosting a 24 vigil, starting at 3:30pm this Monday, November 6th until November 7th the following evening. The vigil is an annual event hosted from the AFROTC unit Detachment 890.  It is held to honor those brave veterans who are declared prisoners of war or missing in action.

In total, 96 volunteer members of the UVA Air Force, Army and Navy ROTC will be paying their respects by silently marching in remembrance.  Immediately following the march, a ceremony will be held in recognition of these veterans, with over 300 midshipmen and cadets in attendance.

Cadet Joseph Ferguson is organizing the event this year. On the importance of the vigil, Ferguson notes, “We hope that those Americans who will never be able to return home will not be forgotten.  I am honored to be able to help lead this vigil and reflect on the freedoms that we are able to have because of our veterans.”
