#14 Baseball (18-10) : 5-4 Loss vs. ODU, 8-7 Loss vs. #23 NC State, 5-3 Win vs. #23 NC State, 5-2 Loss vs. #23 NC State
The Virginia baseball team fell to ODU on Wednesday after the Monarchs mounted a comeback, scoring five runs in the last two innings. Junior Alec Bettinger took the loss for UVa, falling to 0-4 on the season. Juniors Matt Thaiss and Daniel Pinero each had two hits in the loss.

UVa dropped game one against NC State on Friday 8-7 after an eighth inning rally fell short. Virginia tallied an impressive 15 hits, but was unable to capitalize. Junior Matt Thaiss went 4-5 for the ‘Hoos, moving his average to an impressive .356 on the season. Junior UVa starter Connor Jones took his first loss of the season after giving up six earned runs.
The Cavaliers bounced back to take game two 5-3 after Adam Haseley continued his fantastic season on the mound. The sophomore worked six scoreless innings and picked up the win, moving his record to 6-0 on the season. NC State’s three runs all came in the top of the ninth, but the effort wasn’t enough for the Wolfpack. Matt Thaiss and sophomore Jack Gerstenmaier each drove in two runs for the Cavaliers.

The Wolfpack took the rubber match to win the series on Sunday. NC State tallied five runs on 12 hits, handing UVa sophomore starter Tommy Doyle his fourth loss of the season. Virginia could only muster six hits against a stout NC State pitching staff. Virginia will face VCU on Tuesday and George Washington on Wednesday before taking on Boston College in a three game series this weekend.
Men’s Lacrosse (6-5) : 19-4 Win vs. VMI, 9-0 Win at Richmond
The men’s lacrosse team put on a dominating performance against VMI on Tuesday. Three different Virginia players recorded hat tricks, including senior James Pannell, who scored four goals. The Keydets started the game on a 3-1 run, but UVa quickly responded, scoring 12 straight goals in the second and third quarters.

Virginia recorded their first shutout since 2007 on Saturday, taking down Richmond 9-0. Junior UVa goalkeeper Matt Barrett made an outstanding 12 saves in the match, as the Cavaliers only outshot Richmond 29-27. AJ Fish, Matt Emery, and Ryan Lukacovic each scored a pair goals for the ‘Hoos. UVa will move on to play North Carolina on Sunday on ESPNU.

#15 Women’s Lacrosse (6-6) : 15-14 Win vs. #10 Boston College
The Virginia women’s lacrosse team picked up a big win against ACC opponent Boston College on Saturday. After a tightly contested first half, the ‘Hoos came out swinging in the second, using a 6-1 run to take a 12-5 lead on the Eagles. But Boston College would not go down easily, going on a 7-1 run of their own to bring the game to within one goal. Still, UVa sophomore goalkeeper Rachel Vander Kolk held strong, making 10 saves to secure the Cavalier victory. Virginia’s Kasey Behr and Maggie Jackson led the team with four goals each. Virginia returns to action against Navy on Wednesday.

#3 Men’s Tennis (17-3) : 4-3 Loss vs. #1 North Carolina, 6-1 Win at Duke
The men’s tennis team fell to the top ranked Tar Heels on Friday in Charlottesville. Virginia started strong on the doubles court, as J.C. Aragone and Collin Altamirano took the first match against UNC. But the Tar Heels responded, winning the remaining two doubles matches and taking the meet 4-3. It was UVa’s first regular-season ACC loss since 2006.
Virginia bounced back against Duke on Sunday with a 6-1 win. Ryan Shane, Collin Altamirano, Thai-Son Kwiatkowski, Henrik Wiersholm, and Luca Corinteli all won on the singles court for the Cavaliers. UVa will move on to play Florida Wednesday in Gainesville.
#12 Women’s Tennis (11-9) : 4-0 Loss vs. #10 Duke, 4-3 Loss vs. #16 Georgia Tech
The UVa women’s tennis team lost a tough match against Duke on Friday after two of the top three Cavaliers were sidelined with injuries. The doubles team of Danielle Collins and Meghan Kelley picked up a win on the doubles court, but it was all Duke from there, as the Blue Devils swept the singles court matches to take the meet 4-0.
The Cavaliers dropped a close match against Georgia Tech on Sunday. The teams split singles action 3-3, but the sixteenth ranked Yellow Jackets took two of three doubles matches to clinch the victory. The ‘Hoos will take on rival Virginia Tech on Sunday in Blacksburg.
Softball (12-25) : 5-2 Win vs. Radford, 1-0 Loss vs. #7 James Madison, 2-0 Loss vs. #7 James Madison
Virginia tallied a come-from-behind win against Radford on Tuesday, as the ‘Hoos pushed six runs across in the bottom of the sixth inning. Freshman pitcher Erika Osherow was outstanding for the Cavaliers, pitching a complete game and striking out a season-high eight batters for her third straight win.
The ‘Hoos dropped both games of a series-opening double header against seventh ranked James Madison on Wednesday. Neither team could generate much offense on the day, as only three runs were scored in both games. Osherow pitched yet another complete game for Virginia, but the Dukes’ one run was enough to take game one. JMU got ahead in game two after a tricky double steal net them their first run that was ultimately all they needed. UVa’s offense struggled to get runners on base in both games, recording a total of only five hits in both games.
Women’s Golf : Bryan National Collegiate – 1st, 888
The Virginia women’s golf team finished first out of 15 teams in the Bryan National Collegiate over the weekend, winning the title for the third time in four years. Lauren Coughlin (T-5th), Elizabeth Szokol (T-5th), Lauren Diaz-Yi (T-8th), and Anna Redding (T-8th) all finished in the top 10 for the Cavaliers. Virginia will compete in the ACC Championships starting next Friday, April 15th.
#5 Men’s Track & Field
The Virginia men’s track & field team finished up action at the Florida Relays on Saturday, as three Cavaliers finished in the top five. The performance was headlined by the third place finish of the 4×800 relay team of Nathan Kiley, Henry Wynne, Logan Carrington, and Kenneth Hagan. The Cavaliers will compete in the UVa Quad Meet against Columbia, Maryland, and Penn on Friday before finishing up the weekend at the Lou Onesty/Milton G. Abramson Invitational on Saturday.
