NCAA President Mark Emmert announced Wednesday afternoon that he would meet with NCAA student athletes to discuss the idea of Name, Image, and Likeness compensation. This announcement follows the #NotNCAAProperty social media campaign, which was started by numerous NCAA Basketball players. The group also sent a letter to Emmert asking for a discussion on the matter.
Emmert said that he will speak with the National College Players Association after the conclusion of the March Madness Tournament which ends on April 5. While this meeting does not guarantee that any change to the NCAA’s current policy will occur, it is certainly a step in the right direction for the athletes who wish to receive some compensation for their contribution to the NCAA.
